58/365 - Gilded urn of fire
Went up the recently refurbished monument at lunch. The whole thing has been cleaned up, the viewing platform is much nicer than before and the gold bit on the top has been shined up a bit. Today's title is a quote from the wikipedia article. My photostream has more pictures from the monument.

58/365 - Awesome!
I was presented with a 2 foot tall Mickey and Minnie Mouse at work today as I have been invited to attend a special company event at Disney World in May.
This is the Minnie Mouse very close up!

WA and I lived together for 2 years at university - it was lots of fun. WA's 20th birthday was on pancake day so we had a pancake party in our room and made hundreds of pancakes on my (illegal in college) camping stove. One of our friends asked WA if he ever got bored of pancakes on his birthday. This year WA's birthday and Shrove tuesday line up again.

54/365 - Knot
No time to do photos today (grrr lunchtime meetings) so tried a 1:1 macro shot on a moving train. Some bits are in focus others not I like to think it is part of the charm.

53/365 - Graffiti Panda
Labhaoise and I took a trip out to Greystones in Co. Wicklow today for some sea air. We watched Tropic Thunder last night and this little bit of graffiti caught my eye as a result.
The little fella popped up quite alot in the local area.

52/365 - Sunset on the A14
Spent the day in Birmingham with AB helping him clear out his mum's cellar and sheds. Filled a skip and took a car load to the tip. This shot was taken on the way home.

52/365 - Palindromic Car
The main thing I had to get done today was getting my car serviced, which was a struggle as I have what I beleive is bird flu but it might just be a cold.

51/365 - Up periscope
I've spotted these in Leadenhall market many times before and thought that they'd make a good photo. I'm not sure this one does them justice but as it is the only photo I've taken today it will have to do.

49/365 - Ribbon
Really dull and grey today. Found some new places while out walking at lunch but weather was a let down, photos not that inspiring - this was the best of the lot.

48/365 - Mmmmm Donuts
I was looking through Flickr last night and found myself searching for Krispy Kreme and donuts, from which I drew my inspiration for today's photo.

47/365 - Hippo
I borrowed AB's 430ex so now I have 3 wireless capable flashes. I've been having lots of fun with my ebay, pop-up macro studio thingy and the 3 flashes. Pretty much everything in the lounge has been photographed. I love liveview - especially the zoom function, it is perfect for manual macro focus. I have also been shooting tethered to the laptop - which can also display the liveview magic. The fun has spilled over past midnight so I thought I'd post the last shot of the day (well one of the first really) and go to bed.

46/365 - Dumping
Bit of an exercise in controlling reflections. Truck was covered in reflective surfaces at all different angles and the silver tray it was sat on was reflective too.

43/365 - BLAM!
Further to my previous attempts at taking pictures of stuff being smashed here is my latest attempt. Unfortunately all I had lying around to hit was a stale cookie which wasn't really big enough to work properly.

I've been wanting to capture more natural forms during my lunchtime photography - not sure this is that I had in mind but I like it. I also took some photos of a manky pigeon that nearly made it be my photo of the day - check them out in the photostream.

42/365 - TNG Statue?
Not sure who this is a statue of really but I think it looks like Commander Data from Star Trek. It is behind the Tate Modern so I'm almost definately wrong.

39/365 - Windy
Today's post was going to a be stitched panorama of Eastbourne pier. Hower stitching over 30 images from my 15 megapixel 50D is not only time consuming but also, it seems, beyond the capabilities of Hugin. I have sat up watching it try twice and both times it has taken an age only to produce a big blue smudge. The preview looks great - it is all so frustrating! Plus flickr has stopped talking to the blog - grrr!

38/365 - Ex-Balloons
I'm not 100% happy with today's picture. I've really been suffering from a creative block the last few days.
These are the remains of some balloons I had inflated and put to one side so they would shrivel up as balloons do. Unfortunately I forgot to tell my other half who, whilst cleaning the house, took great pleasure in popping them. It's my own fault really.

37/365 - Cooling Tower
This is the cooling tower across from my office. It used to be part of the sugar factory in Carlow but now it is sadly all that remains.
Rumor has it that it is protected and can't be demolished.
The hills behind the tower are still covered in snow so it looks like I did manage a snow realted shot afterall!

36/365 - Lower Horn (of a Guitar)
Unlike everyone else on Flickr I appear to have completely failed to make the most of the recent snow with not one decent snow shot.
So instead I got one of my favourite guitars out and took some pictures of that instead.

35/365 - Sunrise
The sky has been spectacular the last couple of mornings. Combined with the snow it makes for some rather beautiful scenes from my train. I tried to capture some of that this morning with limited success. There wasn't much light around and the train was doing top speed (80mph) so I had to crog up the ISO. I decided to "purposely" include the the reflection of the lights from inside the train, partly to give a sense of being on a train and partly because I just couldn't find a way to take a nice shot without them in.
